You must have Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B to enroll into a Medicare Advantage Plan.
Medicare Advantage Plans combine Medicare Part A and Part B benefits into one plan. Most also include prescription drug coverage as well as additional benefits often with no additional premium.
A Medicare supplement (Medigap) insurance is sold by private companies. It helps pay for some of the out of pocket costs not paid by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B).
Original Medicare does not include Prescription Drug coverage. Once you start Medicare Part A and Part B you will need to enroll into a Prescription Drug plan whether it’s a stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan with Prescription Drug coverage included.
